Review: Montagne Jeunesse Fruit Smoothie Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that I received a complimentary face masque from Montagne Jeunesse inside my Influenster Holiday VoxBox. I had used their Cucumber Peel Off Face Masque before with good results so I was interested in trying this one out as well.

The masque I received was the Fruit Smoothie Deep Pore Cleansing Masque which is one of their mud masques. Their website states "Pores will be opened allowing impurities and dirt to be drawn out leaving skin deeply cleansed".

Interesting...we'll see how it goes.

I've never used a mud masque before but my immediate concern was that the trial size package I received was not big enough. The website states you are to "lavishly apply" the product over your face and neck. For reference, see the picture on the front of the package? I remembered from using my previous masque you needed pretty much the entire package even though I only used it on my face.

I had played with the idea of doing only half my face with the trial size for a before and after deal but decided against it. I happened to see a rack of the masques on my weekly grocery run this week so I went ahead and purchased a full size package.

I'm glad I did too. I needed close to the entire full size package just to "lavishly apply" it to my face. I didn't think the trial size package was the best marketing strategy on the company's part.

To apply the masque you are to cleanse your face with warm water and apply the product evenly avoiding the eyes and lips. Easy enough.

Remember mud pies from when you were a kid? When spreading out the masque it literally feels like you're putting mud on your face. It's a thick, creamy, mud like goo. That aside, it goes on evenly and smooth.

Upon applying the product you could instantly smell the fruit blend. This particular mask is made with mango, peach, pomegrante, raspberry, and vitamin E and OMG does it smell good! My husband even commented on the fruity smell.

I was reading up about the product on their website and saw not only do they use natural ingredients but their masks are "free of parabens, vegetarian approved and never tested on animals". How cool is that?

You're suppose to leave the masque on for 10-15 minutes but I think I left it on longer than that. I started reading blogs and was posting on twitter when I realized I couldn't move my face.

Of course, my husband had to try his best to make me laugh once he found this out. You can see where it cracked on me even though I was trying not to move my face.

The whole drying process is a strange feeling. You can feeling it tightening up on your face until you literally can't move. When you do, you can feel it cracking on your face. I really don't know how to describe it. It's one of those things you just have to experience.

The removal process was a bit of a pain. Since the product dries out so much you have to wet it down first to absorb some of the water before it can be removed. I found it easiest to wet my face and then use a warm, wet washcloth to remove the product.

As you can see from the picture, even with using a washcloth I ended up missing some of it.

To suit every skin type, Montagne Jeunesse Masques are available in a large variation including Cucumber Peel Off, Passion Peel Off, Dead Sea Mud, Fruit Smoothie, Strawberry Souffle, Chocolate Mud and more. They can be purchased most ULTA Beauty, Walgreen’s, Claire’s, Walmart, Kroger, CVS and more for roughly $1.30 - $2 each.

All in all I think it's a good product. My skin felt noticably smoother after removing the masque though it did feel a little tight. I ended up putting a facial moisturizer on shortly after taking the photo (and removing the rest of the product).

Will I purchase the product again? Probably though I doubt it will be this particular kind. I didn't care for the removal process and would much rather have a peel off masque instead.

What are your thoughts? Have you tried this product? Did you like it?
